Emergency Medicine Physician
Dr. Jim Box graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 1983. He then continued at UAMS to complete his emergency medicine residency in 1986. He has maintained board certification and practiced emergency medicine in the Central Arkansas area for over 37 years. During the course of his career, Dr. Box has served as an instructor in the UAMS Emergency Medicine Residency Program, a flight physician on a helicopter air ambulance, and also as an attending emergency physician in all of the major Little Rock hospitals.
Dr. Box and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 38 years. They have two adult children, and two young grandchildren who consume most of their attention outside of working hours. Dr. Box says he is motivated by the privilege of interacting with patients on the level of their basic needs, whether it be to address concerns, ease fears, or provide them with quality care. As he explains, “My father was a physician in a rural Arkansas county for forty years, and I saw that his practice provided him with purpose. I wanted that same sense of engagement and purpose myself.”
Dr. Box’s favorite quote is from Charles Swindoll, who once said, “Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it.”
